Albany Awarded Young at Heart money from the Heart of England Community Foundation
The Albany has been successful in getting some money from the Heart of England Community Foundation through their Young at Heart programme to run workshops with older people in Spon End.
Piloted with the Earlsdon Park Village complex which is immediately behind the Albany in Autumn 2016, Alice Williams from the Belgrade Theatre lead a series of drama workshops with residents. The people at Earlsdon Park really enjoyed themselves, one participant said:
“it was really good because we got to know people here that we’d never spoken to… now we’ve met we sit together for lunch and have coffee, we were too embarrassed to speak to each other before”
This funding will enable us to widen the scope of the workshops and reach participants beyond Earlsdon Park, living around Spon End who perhaps wouldn’t have access to arts and culture otherwise. We will be contacting various groups in Spon End and nearby the Albany in the coming months, those we have worked with before and those we haven’t; if you know of a care home, private home or individual living locally who would be interested in taking part then please get in touch.
