Thursday 5 April - Saturday 7 April 2018
The Embroidery Girl is a breath-taking dance drama, set during the transition period from the Qing Dynasty – the last imperial dynasty - to the Republic of China.
It follows the life of a poor girl, the pursuit of her embroidery, and her fight for the liberty to live and love freely. The art of her embroidery is the art of the girl’s life, and her life becomes threaded into her embroidery art.
This large-scale, international production by Wuxi City Dance (Wuxi is one of the major cities near Shanghai) debuted in China, later touring to the USA and Canada, where it received rave reviews. Filled with spectacular dance, music, tragedy and lots of humour, and beautiful, exotic Chinese dance, Embroidery Girl is choreographed by one of China’s top Directors Zhao Ming.
