Albany Theatre Leader Steps Down

Kevin Shaw, the Albany Theatre’s popular Chief Executive and Artistic Director, is moving on after five years in the role.

Kevin joined The Albany in 2020 and found his first task was to manage the COVID lockdown. He steered the theatre through the great challenges of the next two years and then built on his reputation as an award-winning theatre director with acclaimed productions of A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist and Alice in Wonderland.

Despite being initially sidelined by Coventry City of Culture, on Kevin’s arrival The Albany was then asked to step in to deliver both the Theatre Next Door and Generate Festival programmes for the city. The Albany continues Generate, which highlights local performers, with at least one show night a year.

Kevin Shaw says: “ I have enjoyed my incredible time at The Albany. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented team and with the many volunteers that make it all work. I shall miss the day to day, but I am looking forward to contributing to many more productions at The Albany over the coming years as I re-establish my freelance career.”

Kevin Shaw joined The Albany after 17 successful years as the CEO and Artistic Director of the Oldham Coliseum and led the theatre through the recent £3 million development programme. David Meredith, Chair of the Albany Theatre Trust, praised Kevin Shaw’s contribution: “Kevin has guided The Albany’s transformation over what has been a challenging period, what with first COVID and then a very disruptive building programme. Now is the time for The Albany to make the most of the fabulous new facilities he has helped to deliver by establishing a solid commercial foundation to ensure long term stability and security.”

Kevin Shaw will leave The Albany at the end of July. The search for his replacement is underway.
