Thank you to everyone who has visited and supported us this spring. It’s been a busy few weeks at the theatre with some packed out shows and plenty of activity, read on for the latest Albany Updates from March.
Celebrating our 10th Anniversary
Since the re-opening of the theatre in 2013 a huge amount of improvement has taken place. We are all excited for the next stage! In the last decade we have helped over 20 interns and apprentices launch their careers in the arts. Hundreds of volunteers have also assisted with front of house duties and technical theatre production backstage. We launched the Youth Theatre and grew our creative outreach in city schools and the community. The creation of Albany Productions has also enabled us to develop and create successful inhouse shows, such as the adaptation of A Christmas Carol. We look forward to the next 10 years!
Silver Success at Tourism Awards
Earlier this month the theatre received the Silver Award in the Resilience and Innovation category at the West Midlands Tourism Awards. The marketing team attended the awards along with fellow Destination Coventry members who also celebrated success on the night. Dhillion’s Brewery achieved a silver, Coventry Cathedral were awarded bronze and St Mary’s Guildhall won gold. We are proud to work together with other local businesses and organisations strengthening the city’s arts and cultural visitor offering.
Website Improvements.
Our website has recently benefited from a number of changes and improvements. This has enhanced the functionality, and should give a much better user experience on mobile devices. We want to ensure we keep improving the digital experience for everyone and are always keen to receive feedback. If you haven’t looked at the website recently take a peek!
Re-Development – Building
Construction work continues at a pace, last month unexploded bomb detection took place in the courtyard area. This is where a new extension will be built, joining together the far wing of the former college building to incorporate a studio theatre, larger foyer, new bar, café and stairs. As part of the planning consent a UXO Survey took place that identifies whether there is any exploded ordnance within the ground prior to excavating the substructure and piling operations. After the all clear was given the main contractors Interclass have continued with the foundations and excavations work required for the courtyard infill. As the work progresses, we will share updates on the website and on our social media channels.
