Working in a theatre is more than just acting on stage - there are so many other vital roles backstage and front of house. You'll have the opportunity to join as many of the groups as you'd like, in the various departments of the Albany. You'll be welcomed into running the theatre as an equal.
Front of House
Being a Front of House volunteer means you’ll work with members of our team to deliver the best possible customer experience to our patrons. We’ll provide all the training you need to guide people to their seats, sort out their tickets and make their visit as enjoyable as possible.
First point of contact for patrons; you’ll use our system. A varied role with lots of customer interaction. Volunteers are needed Mon-Sat for regular daytime roles or for evenings when we have a show on.
You'll be showing patrons to their seats, answering queries and keeping a watchful eye over our audience … plus you get to see the show.
Our patrons have a choice of hot drinks, sweets, ice creams and soft and alcoholic refreshments. Volunteers help us to serve everyone and help them really enjoy their Albany experience
Not all of the magic happens on stage! By volunteering in the Office, you'll gain a new insight into how everything is planned and comes together to deliver shows and events.
You'll be given the chance to look through our databases and filing systems, with the aim of helping everything run smoothly. Great experience for anyone wanting to work in admin.
Planning and preparation are key words here. We constantly strive to raise awareness of the theatre and the shows we have on. Tasks range from leading complete campaigns to delivering leaflets.
The Albany Picture House
presents a wide range of films. It needs film-fanatics to help run, programme and develop it into a leading cinema in Coventry. Plenty of opportunities to get involved.
Technical and Backstage
A huge amount of effort goes into making sure every show we have at the Albany Thatre looks and sounds great. Our Technical Volunteers are given the chance to help with get-ins and get-outs and help with building maintenance.
Lighting and Sound
Whether you'd like to design, rig or assist, you'll be able to train and learn how to programme and operate the lighting and sound desks. Mmm gobos.
As stagecrew, you'll be vital in running the show from behind-the-scenes. Helping people on and off stage, managing props and operating followspots.
If you're interested in DIY, then this group is for you. The theatre is 81 years old, so we have a programme of running repairs and upkeep to contend with.
For the under 18s we have Junior Volunteer roles, you need to be accompanied by your grown up but get a chance to help out in lots of different departments.
Front of House
You'll be helping out as an usher during shownights, and possibly also helping out on the Kiosk. If you're eager, then come along to help out!
If you know you'd like to work in a theatre, but you're not sure what you'd like to do, being a technical junior volunteer will give you a great overview of what's possible.
