Singing Welsh Songs with Andy Jones
CV Folk Freshers Workshop for St.David’s Day
If you love singing and are seeking new challenges, this is the workshop for you. It’s the second of two opportunities on Saturday, March 1st, to build up your music-making skills under the guidance of leading lights from the local folk circuit.
Presented by CVFolk in the Albany Theatre’s Clive Benfield Studio, the afternoon workshop starts at 2pm. Hosted by local Welsh choir leader, Andy Jones it provides a rare opportunity for all of us to enjoy and sing songs of Wales – in Welsh!
Organiser of Welsh choir and music events, Côr Cymraeg Coventry, Andy supervises two hours of singing and music as a celebration of St.David’s Day. You don’t have to be Welsh – or even an experienced singer – to have a go at performing a few straightforward folk songs. Andy will provide the words and you can learn the tunes by ear.
Musicians are also welcome to bring instruments to play along as well as sing. Harmonies are encouraged, and Andy will give a few simple pronunciation hints (but won’t expect many people to be spot on first time!).
If there’s time, he may also teach one or two session tunes (again by ear) if enough of you bring instruments.
Admission is £8 or £5 concessions, including students and pensioners. Book in advance or pay on arrival, and bring an instrument if you have one!
