CV Folk: Freshers Workshop – Whistle Workshop
Saturday 2nd November 2024

Whistle Playing for Beginners and Improvers with Ewan Cameron

Regarded as one of the finest whistle and recorder players on the folk scene, Ewan Cameron will be hosting our November workshop to share his advice on playing whistle as a folk instrument.

Starting 11am, the relaxed and friendly two-hour session will enable you to develop your own expertise on this deceptively simple instrument that can produce the most evocative and exciting melodies. This is open to everyone who plays (or wants to play) D whistle and will be excellent preparation for taking part in sessions or adding some atmospheric arrangements to your band’s material. Or just impressing the guests at Christmas! You’ll need to bring your own whistle – either high or low D will be fine.

Ewan is a member of several line-ups including Rob Halligan’s celebrated folk-rock band, Homeward Hie, and popular folk-dance musicians, Danger! Ceilidh Band.

Our Folk Freshers Workshops run monthly on Saturday mornings. All age groups are welcome and we’re very keen to see young people taking this opportunity to pursue their journeys as musicians and performers. Each month, we feature different instruments and aspects of the folk arts.

The sessions take place in the recently opened Clive Benfield Studios in the Albany Theatre building. Admission is £8 per person (£5 concessions) – book via the Box Office or just turn up on the day and pay at the desk.
