Generate Launch
Friday 4th October 2024

The Albany celebrates the unveiling of stunning new facilities with Generate Launch, a celebration of diverse local talent from the many communities that are now part of the Albany Family. The new spaces will be formally opened on the night by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Mal Mutton.

Performers on the night include

  • Sing for Change
  • Highlife Project
  • Impact Steel Band – now based at The Albany
  • Godiva Academy of Performing Arts
  • Moving Space Theatre
  • Ankura School of Dance
  • Elite Dance

There will also be opportunities to see our new studio spaces in action with workshops from Albany sings and CV Folk and a video presentation from Ascension Dance before the performance starts.

This is a landmark moment in the history of the Albany Theatre. Opened in 2012 after the former Butts Theatre closed when Coventry’s City College moved across the city, managed by a charitable trust, the theatre has faced many threats over the intervening years. Now, after a long wait and lots of blood, sweat and tears, the Albany Theatre is now a place!

Having secured a 50-year lease in 2022, the Albany now offers two Studio Theatres, two further flexible spaces, a spacious foyer, new bar (and soon a café) and proudly claims to be the city’s most accessible arts venue, with a Changing Places toilet as the centrepiece of comprehensive facilities that offer a warm welcome for all (with more to come). Speaking of toilets, Chair of the Trust, David Meredith, is most proud of the new ladies’ loos: “After what we had before, they offer such a relief for all our female patrons!”
