Wednesday 21st September, 7.00pm
As part of the World Cinema Festival, The Albany Picture House presents The Rocket from Laos.
Screened in Lao with English subtitles.
A simple drama telling the story of Ahlo, a boy considered by his family to be a harbinger of bad luck. Believing that if he can win the local firework competition his luck will change, Ahlo makes friends with an orphan and her wacky uncle. In the background, however, looms Loas’ history of unexploded bombs - a remnant of the American-Vietnam war.
A feel-good film for all the family, The Rocket is a life-affirming treat.
“Kim Mordaunt's when-life-gives-you-land-mines tale is light on well-drawn characters, but its performances, especially from the nonprofessional junior members, more than light the fuse for the finale.” Time Out
